Biblical Worldview & Why it Matters

Every decision we make in every part of our life is make based on our worldview. As Christian’s, our worldview should be Biblical. But, if like me, your Christian faith was fostered in a water-down church that didn’t stand on God’s Word, then you might not have a

fully developed worldview based on God’s Word.

Our worldview shapes what we do daily, how we think about things that happen in our life and our world, and how we live our life. If we don’t have a Biblical Worldview, our worldview is secular meaning that the world and its popular culture influences our decisions, often going against God’s Word.

So? What IS a Biblical Worldview?

A Biblical worldview is rooted in the infallible Word of God. If we can’t agree that God’s Word is divinely inspired and completely reliable, this is our first sign we may have a secular worldview. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” which means that our Holy Bible is the first place to look for Truth. If “it” (your view on money, politics, child-rearing, or even art) doesn’t align with God’s word, then you are relying on a secular worldview and not a Biblical one.

Having a Biblical worldview is pivotal because it dictates how we live our lives. When the hard things happen (and they will happen), how do you respond? Do you go to scripture for advice in those moments, do you trust God with the reality of the situation, do you have faith that whatever is happening is going to advance God’s kingdom in some way? Or do you panic and doomscroll for answers from humans that can’t do more than offer platitudes and maybe’s on how to solve the problem?

Okay, how do you get a Biblical worldview?

Quite frankly, you have to develop it and ask God for wisdom! Like I said before, I grew up in the Church, but I was given a watered-down message that did not teach me to stand on Truth—there was wiggle room and there was no correction when someone was living outside of Truth. So, as I got older and started to understand that my worldview matters, I started digging deeper into God’s Word.

I read the Bible. I read it again. I opened it the next day and read some more. And then I started applying it directly to my life. Instead of turning to self-help books, I turned to God’s Word to see what He had to say about various topics in my life. Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:15-17, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” That told me that in everything I do, I should test it against scripture.

Am I perfect? Nope. I still see too much (and anything is too much) through a secular worldview, but, as I learn more about the character of God, I have found my self leaning more and more toward a full on Biblical worldview.

And through that, I try to teach my kids to grow up with that worldview so that their foundation isn’t as rocky as mine was. I don’t want them to start forming this worldview in their 20s, but I want it to be second nature for them!

So we read scripture right from the “big Bible” as early as 2 years old and talk about what it means. We memorize scripture and apply it to our lives. We ask the question, “Is that God’s Truth or the worlds?” And I let them see me doing the same. I pray in the hard moments, I offer glory to God, and I show them my trust in Him, despite the world telling me everything is dark and doomed.

So, ultimately, why is it important?

If we aren’t looking at the world through the lens of the Bible, we are going to fall prey to the world’s lies. We aren’t going to recognize the propaganda that is often fed to us. We won’t see the enemy coming with fake “truth” that is used to distract us from God’s mission for our lives. And then we won’t be able to shepherd our children well.

And that is ultimately one of the most important reasons why a mom should have a biblical worldview—to raise her children up in God’s truth.

So, if you haven’t opened your Bible today, go grab it, turn to one of the Gospels or to one of Paul’s letters and dig in. Or turn to the proverbs and read one chapter a day of the next month. Or do both.

I promise, your life will change when your worldview does. And your worldview will change with that one simple habit change of reading your Bible daily.

I pray that this encouraged you, and that you are able to dig in to God’s word today.
