Eight years ago, when I went to bed on election night, I knew I would not be happy with the outcome. I was not for Hilary and I was not for Trump. I knew either one would be a disappointment for me.

When I checked my phone in the middle of the night after checking on my baby, I felt a palpable dread—I had been told by the mainstream media all sorts of terrible things about this man.

The following four years of his administration revealed to me that he wasn’t really all that bad. My husband and I were actually doing pretty well financially, even despite COVID.

So last night, when I checked on the baby and happened to check on the election results, it was a very surreal feeling to be elated.

I will be the first to say that Trump is not perfect. But the lies the media has fed to the public regarding him are absolutely ridiculous. To see the way the other side have persecuted their political opponent has been abhorrent. To see the way they excuse the behavior of their own party and hyperbolize the actions of Trump supports is disgusting.

But, that doesn’t mean I won’t respect their choice, their vote, their opinion. I would just wish they would respect mine.
